First Birthday

Maggie's 1st birthday was a lot of fun. Nana & Grandpa Gardner were here for the day. We went to music class, then home to open presents! Maggie received lots of clothes, many wonderful toys & books, and a lion chair to sit on and think grand thoughts.
After a very nice dinner at Randy's Steakhouse, it was home for cake! I made a ginger/cinnamon cake for Mags, and frosted it with avocado icing. MMM...good!

Maggie had her 12 month checkup yesterday. Our girl is 21 lbs 10 oz and is 30'' long.
Maggie can make the sounds of various animals, either when asked or when she sees a picture in a book. Duck, Lion, Horse, Elephant (bet you think I'm making that one up!), Dog and Parrot are all part of her repertoire. She is working to include Cat, Sheep, Fish (glub glub glub, of course), Turkey and Bear.

Smart Baby Saves Stupid Parents

It was a Friday night. Maggie's parents had brought her home later than usual. Daddy started dinner while Momma got Maggie settled in her highchair. Daddy heated up some pasta in a skillet and put bread with olive oil and cheese in the oven. Momma & Daddy sat down at the table with Maggie and started talking about their day. They were paying more attention to each other's stories than to Maggie, who was content to nibble on some crackers while waiting for dinner. Maggie said, "Uh-Oh." Momma looked on the floor to see where the cracker had landed. There was no cracker. Momma smiled at Maggie, and went back to listening to Daddy tell his story. Maggie said, "Uh-Oh" and pointed. Again, Momma saw no cracker on the floor. So she smiled at Maggie and parroted, "Uh-Oh." Maggie then said "UH-OH" and pointed with urgency toward the kitchen. Finally, Maggie's parents turned to see what Maggie was pointing at, and they discovered that the bread was on fire!
Maggie's parents have vowed to listen better to their very smart little girl.
(P.S. Birthday pictures are coming soon!)
